Doctoral studies
You want to apply for a residence permit for doctoral studies. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.
Studies in a mobility programme
You want to apply for a residence permit for studies in a mobility programme that are to start in Sweden, or you have been admitted to mobility studies in another EU country and want to notify the Swedish Migration Agency that you will complete parts of your studies in Sweden.
Contract or specialisation education
You want to apply for a residence permit for contract or specialisation education. If your family will be accompanying you, they can apply at the same time.
Other studies and studies at upper secondary school
You want to apply for a residence permit for other studies or exchange studies at upper secondary school for a period longer than three months.
Family who want to apply afterwards
You are a family member of a person who has applied for or has been granted a residence permit for higher education or a residence permit to look for work after completing their studies. You now want to apply to live with this person, who is already in Sweden.
Permanent residence permits for doctoral students
You want to apply for a permanent residence permit as a doctoral student. If any of your family members also want to apply for a permanent residence permit, they can do so at the same time as you.

As of 7 July, you can apply for a Schengen visa in Pakistan for short visits to Sweden by submitting your application in Islamabad.
